The first step in getting treated for narcolepsy is getting diagnosed. Obesity and depression are common among people with narcolepsy and may also require treatment.Sometimes people with narcolepsy have additional sleep disorders (such as sleep apnea) that should be treated, as they can worsen sleepiness.If narcolepsy is suspected, the doctor will order sleep studies to help confirm the diagnosis.
